How to Survive the Holiday Season Stress-Free
Amy Au·October 25, 2022
The holidays are a wonderful time of year. Family, friends, and food all come together to create memories that will last a lifetime. However, the holidays can also be a period of immense stress. From gift shopping to preparing large meals, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget to take care of yourself. But don't worry, we're here to help! Here are some tips to help you get through the holiday season stress-free.
1. Set Realistic Expectations
One of the main sources of holiday stress is unrealistic expectations. We set ourselves up for disappointment by expecting everything to be perfect, when in reality, things rarely go according to plan. This holiday season, take a step back and try to be realistic in your expectations. Accept that not everything will go perfectly, but that's okay! Part of the beauty of the holidays is embracing the chaos.
2. Make Time for Yourself
Another common cause of holiday stress is forgetting to make time for yourself. Between work parties, family gatherings, and shopping for gifts, it's easy to get so caught up in the busyness of the season that you forget to take care of yourself. But it's important to remember that you can't pour from an empty cup. Make sure to schedule some “me time” into your schedule, even if it's just a few minutes each day. Take a long bath, read your favorite book, or take a walk outdoors—whatever helps you relax and recharge. You'll be glad you did!

3. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
Try not to sweat the small stuff this holiday season. Yes, your Aunt Gertrude may drive you crazy with her incessant chatter, but it's not worth getting worked up over. Instead of dwelling on the negative, focus on the positive aspects of your loved ones and you'll be sure to have a much happier holiday season!
4. Be present
One of the best gifts you can give yourself (and others) during the holidays is your full attention. Instead of letting your mind wander while someone is talking to you or trying to multitask while wrapping presents, give the task at hand your full attention. This will help reduce your stress levels and allow you to fully enjoy the moment—something we could all use a little more of during this busy time of year!
The holidays don't have to be stressful! By setting realistic expectations, making time for yourself, not sweating the small stuff, and be present, you can enjoy all that this season has to offer without any added stress or anxiety. So go ahead and treat yourself a little —you deserve it!
